A Cannabis-Infused Thanksgiving Dinner

With Thanksgiving next week, I'm sure you're beginning to plan out your menu. COVID-19 may be encouraging you to keep your meal circle small or even completely virtual, but whatever your plans, incorporating a few cannabis-infused dishes can be a fun way to spice up your typical dinner. Whether with your closest family and friends virtually, with your roommates, or just you and your partner, the following recipes can be enjoyed with a little cannabis inside. The best part about these recipes is you can customize the strength to your tolerance level, or switch out the cannabutter for regular butter if you desire a non-medicated version.

First things first: you need cannabutter. In order to cook with cannabis, the dry flower must be activated through decarboxylation. It's best to get this butter-making process out of the way a few days ahead of time so you can test out the potency to your liking (remember, try a small amount first, wait an hour and see how you feel, then try a larger quantity if needed). Check out this step-by-step guide from Essence Cannabis Dispensary. They call for 7-10 grams of ground cannabis flower per one cup of butter. You'll also need a strainer or a cheesecloth as well as a heat resistant container.

Once your cannabutter is made and at the perfect potency, you can start adding the butter to your favorite dishes. If the taste or the strength of the cannabutter called for in the recipe is more than you desire, split the cannabutter amount in half and use non-infused butter for the other half. Here's what's on our infused Thanksgiving menu this year.

Thanksgiving dinner wouldn't be complete without cranberry sauce. Adding some cannabutter will pull this infused meal all together.

This recipe infuses the pie crust, so you can fill the mini-pies with any filling you desire. The chef uses mason jar lids for baking, so if you don't have a mini-pie pan, no worries. The recipe can be used for a full-sized pie as well (if mini pies aren't your thing). Stoner Tip: Top the pies with a scoop of ice cream for an extra-flavorful experience.
